  • If you like to make it spicy add more chili powder.

Pappauttu-Steamed Rice cake with milk

Papputtu is a Koorg's special item.Paputtu is Palputtu means Steamed rice cake with Milk. This dish is a good combination with Chicken curry..Its quiet simple to prepare..the traditional way of cooking is different than what i explained here. The main ingredient for this dish is rice. The broken rice is used for this..Usually it is available everywhere in koorg. But what i did here was just grinded the basamati rice using the mixer and made the broken rice, rice came as  very small in shape. ..I think it is  hard to find such broken rice (podiyari) packets in any of the shop.but in coorg its  very common .so use any type of the rice in  your pantry and grind it and prepare this wonderful dish..the recipe is

Ingredients
Broken rice: 1 cup
Milk : 1 1/2 cup
G?rated Coconut: 4 tbs
Salt : to taste

Note: Use Coconut Milk or cow milk(used for the tea preparation).

Preparation
1.First soak the broken rice into the milk for 30minute- 1 hour . Mix it with salt and grated coconut.

2.(The traditional way).-Then pour this mix into a round shaped steel plate.
3. Boil water in a cooker(pressure cooker) and place the rice mixture plate inside ..cook the content for 5 -10 minutes without using the weight..Let the cooked mix to cool down and carefully remove the papputtu from the plate and cut it into desired shape.

Here what i did was that- i used the idlicooker.just pour the mix into the idlimould and cook for 5-10 minutes in medim heat..and once it get done just removed the papputtu from  the mould...Its looks like flat idli, but the texture and taste is really diferent than idli and the best combination with the koorg style chicken curry.Garnish it with grated carrot on top...

Cook's tip
  • Do not add too much milk for soaking the broken rice..
  • Add grated coconut according to you taste .If u doesn't like the coconut just prepare without using it.
  • Do not forget to add the salt
